Field Research Safety
Field research is an essential part of academic programs at the NU.
Proper planning for field research will help in the prevention of hazards that are presented outside of
the University's controlled environment.

Fieldwork encompasses any outdoor activities that are conducted primarily for research purposes, and can pose different levels of risk to research members.

Researchers should work with their supervisors to develop a plan on how to prevent and respond to emergency situations. Every researcher or student participant should be familiar with the plan before starting field research.

Planning
Where it will be conducted?
Research location and description
Who will participate?
Participants and contact information.
How can we go there?
Modes of transportation.
What Safety Equipment needed?
Consider Personal Protective Equipment.
What kind of hazards and risks are there?
Prepare a list of risks and prevention plan of concerns.
Also, it will be better to have an emergency plan on each possible threat case.
Get prepared!
Is there any Emergency services?
First aid considerations: Any field activity should include first aid supplies.
Before studies please consider medical check-ups and vaccinations if necessary.
