Safety considerations
Students are prohibited from operating machines or performing any other activities in the University machine shop unless supervised by a designated person.
Working alone by undergraduates is strictly prohibited.
All others are strongly discouraged from working alone.
General Rules at workshop
- Shop supervisors and monitors may prohibit shop access or machinery use for any reason
- No machinery may be used without documented completion of safety training
- Students may not work without the supervision of a shop supervisor.
- Safety Glasses: Safety glasses are required when equipment is in use. Additional protective equipment may be required for certain operations.
- No loose clothing in workshops!
- Long hair must be contained and pulled back tightly. Long beards must also be contained.
- All jewelry, including rings, necklaces, bracelets and watches must be removed during works at workshops.
- No open-toed shoes.
- Long pants are strongly encouraged.
- Report all damaged equipment to the manager.
- Food and drinks are prohibited.
- Keep access to emergency exits clear.
- Clean up working areas.
- Rreport concerns to the shop supervisor.
Useful tips and self-awareness
- DO NOT WORK ALONE!
- Do not remove, displace an equipment
- Do not leave machines running without supervision.
- Do not throw hazardous materials in the regular trash.
- If you have questions, do not afraid to ASK!
- Instruction and Training is required.
- Always keep your hands clear of the point of operation by using related equipment.
